Coach Certification

Discovery

DCS Certification is a 1 year program designed to prepare participants to discover the real Expert in others. Empowering others for greatness hinges on the belief that others are the Expert of their context. Certification is an excellent way to learn to better develop others, enjoy impactful performance supervision, and explore future avenues for your own coaching.

Focus

Discovery Coaching, in its essence, is an application of Proverbs 20:5. The purposes of a person’s heart are deep waters, but a person of understanding will draw them out.

Competency

The year of Discovery Coach certification centers on 10 coaching competencies that are studied and developed over the year.

Expertise

The training manual is based upon over 20 years of executive coaching experience as well as training hundreds of others to be coaches. It provides a chapter-by-chapter guide to these 10 competencies. There are exercises with each chapter. One chapter is covered each month.

Resourcing

There are also reading assignments. Participants are required to read at 3 of the 6 books in the syllabus and are encouraged to read all of them. Other reading assignments tailored to your unique coach development needs will also be assigned.

Clarity

A coaching philosophy is developed that includes understanding what Discovery Coaching is and how each person plans to use coaching in their context.

Feedback

Coaching skills are assessed. This is done through a recorded coaching session later in the year that is reviewed and a written report is given. Participants identify and begin coaching their first clients during the year of coach training.

Growth

A coach development plan is prepared throughout the year, chapter by chapter, so that at the end of the year a fully developed plan for future growth as a coach is in hand.

Traction

There is a monthly meeting with a DCS Content Coach. The purpose of this 45” session is to gain traction on the competency being studied that month. There are questions included with the training manual to help participants engage with each competency.

Coaching

There is a monthly meeting with a DCS Discovery Coach. The purpose of this monthly 90” session is to have a year-long experience of receiving Discovery Coaching from a seasoned coach.
